Update on Mama kitty! posted 4/23/2010

The cruelty division officer from the TAHS came to our house Tuesday morning. She saw mama kitty and offered to take her if we can catch her and get her veterinary attention. She definitely was having trouble breathing, but despite the fact she was sick and weak and not feeling well she was able to elude mom and the officer. Even with using the net, mama was able to get away. Mom said she tried grabbing her when she was running away from the officer toward mom but mom didn't hang on to her when mama kitty freaked and started fighting back. The officer told mom not to get scratched or bite because mom would have to get rabies shots because of mama being sick and an feral cat. Mama kitty ran over to the neighbors house and hid in their bushes so the officer said to let her relax and when she comes back over to our house or in to the shelter some how maybe we could enclose her and make it a little easier to trap her to catch her and then call them and they will come back and pick her up. Well, mama stayed hidden at the neighbors Tuesday and we have yet to see her at all now. She's left the neighbors bushes and disappeared to some other hidden location. We have left food and water for her but it remains untouched.

Like the officer told mom.... "you can't save them all" but if she comes back we can try again. Even though mom feels bad, she has done everything she can to help her. Some feral cats are so wild that they make it difficult to help them. Even if she was able to get medical attention to help her feel better, she is one of those cats that will never be domesticated or adoptable and most likely would have to be euthanized anyways. We hope mama kitty is okay and feeling better but since she has disappeared, she has either gotten so weak and sick she can't move or has found a place and curled up and died. :(( If anything new develops in the days to come I will post.
